Nosworthy: Support crucial

Nyron Nosworthy believes Sunderland's fanatical home support will play a crucial role in their fight for Premier League survival.

The Black Cats bolstered their hopes of avoiding the drop with a vital three points at Aston Villa last Saturday.

The win took Roy Keane's men four points clear of the drop zone and victory over West Ham at the Stadium of Light on Saturday would further enhance their top flight ambitions.

Breathing space

Nosworthy told the club's official website: "We need to go for the jugular against West Ham.

"We need to start well, get the crowd going and give them no breathing space.

"As usual the fans will make the difference. We were so pleased that we gave them something to cheer about at Villa."

The 27-year-old defender also believes with confidence high the Black Cats can finish the season unbeaten.

Undefeated

"On paper we have a run of games where we should pick up a good few points. The aim is to go undefeated until the end of the season," he added.

"That might sound like a big ask but we can do it, it's possible if we keep our attitude. We are playing with confidence, we look solid and we've got to keep doing it."
