Giggs: Aims to match Chelsea
Ryan Giggs says Manchester United need to match Chelsea's hunger if they are to complete a hat-trick of Premier League titles.
United started the new season with a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle United on Sunday, while Chelsea crushed Portsmouth 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have already outlined their intention to reclaim the top-flight crown and Giggs outlined the qualities the reigning champions need to show to fend off the Blues' challenge.
"They didn't win the Premier League last year," Giggs told Sky Sports News. "I've been in that position where you've not win it.
"You're hungry and determined, and you want to win it, simple as that.
"We've got to match their determination, their hunger and their desire. We've got players at the club who've tasted success over the last couple of years and want more."
Following the stalemate with Newcastle, Giggs admits United's title prospects could be improved by the addition of a new striker.
He added: "We're all disappointed we didn't win as every team wants to get off to a winning start, but we did okay.
"Obviously, Carlos (Tevez) was not there on Sunday, which was disappointing, and Wayne (Rooney) missed a bit of pre-season.
"He would have liked a few more games under his belt, while Fraizer (Campbell) is a young lad. Ideally you want four or five strikers, but we haven't got that."
United have been strongly linked with a bid for Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov, but Giggs is in the dark about whether the Bulgarian will arrive at Old Trafford.
The Welsh winger continued: "I think we're always getting linked with players, especially when you don't win the first game, and you've got a couple of strikers injured or missing.
"We get linked with lots of players and the players are always the last to find out about these things."
