Warnock: Proud of effort
I'm proud my lads have shown what they can do.
Neil Warnock
Quotes of the week
Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock was proud of his players despite their 4-2 aggregate defeat to Bristol City on Tuesday.
The Eagles were up against it following a 2-1 home defeat last weekend, but responded with a fine display at Ashton Gate.
Ben Watson's header forced extra-time, although it could have been so different had Watson netted a second half penalty.
Goals in extra time from Lee Trundle and Michael McIndoe eliminated Palace from the play-offs while booking The Robins a date at Wembley.
"Obviously it's disappointing isn't it," he told Sky Sports. "I'm glad we've played well.
"We didn't play well on Saturday. We didn't give a good account of ourselves. I knew we were better then that.
"17 minutes to go and we get the penalty. It's not his fault. I wouldn't have wanted to take it and then two great goals.
"It was a good goal. I thought both goals were great. The penalty would have killed them. I thought they'd gone by then.
"I couldn't have been any prouder of my lads tonight. I'm glad we've finished on a high note.
"I think (Watson) and Tom Soares were magnificent, and Derry. They know they've been in a game tonight.
"I'm proud my lads have shown what they can do."
Warnock hopes Bristol City go on to secure promotion, although he was surprised he got man-handled following the full-time whistle.
"I wish them well. There are great fans, apart from the guy who thumped me on the way off. I wonder if the Football Association might fine him," he joked.
